We

Cover of "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin, featuring a minimalist design with bold typography and a stark color palette. A large eyeball dominates the cover as it stares directly down on a cityscape.

Finished this very early this morning, completing my dystopian trifecta (We, Brave New World, and 1984.)

I actually found We (1920) to be the most compelling of the three. In We, the unregulated state of nature retains a certain nobility as opposed to the portrayal in BNW where humans living in nature are filthy brutes.

Zamyatin builds his future world quite presciently for someone still living with the technology of WWI. Transparent buildings, a spaceship powered by water-hydrogen, etc. The surveillance state is in line with the other novels and spot on for where we are headed.
