Rivals

Heartbroken and weary from many battles
Reason sat down on the tracks to ponder.

Belief had told him once,
“There’s no reason we can’t get along,
You are for this world, I for the next.”
But Reason had learned that
Belief wanted this world too.

Reason remembered the television
show about the siblings.
How one brother had all the fun
and none of the responsibility.
It made for great comedic conflict.

He pulled out his phone and read
a post on social media which proved
the existence of God. He thought about
reading the comments but instead,
He closed his eyes and lay down on the steel.

Belief raced towards him on the rails,
gaining speed.
